The 5 Shorts to get you through Summer
Summer is well and truly here. Yes we know that British summers are changeable at best, but with Euro 2016 around the corner, the Olympics and recent weeks of sunshine filled weekends, we feel confident that this summer is going to be scorcher. If that is the case, dressing right will make your life a lot easier and with that in mind, we have put together a little guide on a summer style essential, the short. Perfect for summer (because who wears them out in winter?) there are a masse of styles out on the market today. Here are the shorts that we think you really need to have in your wardrobe to make it through the summer in one piece.
Chino shorts are the perfect bridge shorts. Still rocking that smart chino vibe with some great tailoring, the fabric is a lot more comfortable with denim and much more stylish too. Note to self – denim shorts for men is not a trend that we advocate. We love these stylish River Island designs. They would be perfect for a casual summer wedding when teamed with a smart white shirt and blazer.
If you start or end your day with a cycle through the streets, you will already know the importance of a great pair of shorts that don’t chafe, that look good and that make the most of all of the miles that you have covered on your bike. If you are on the lookout for a new pair, we recommend the brilliant 2XU compression jersey shorts at Mr Porter, which support muscles resulting in reduced soreness and fatigue.
These are a summer style savior. Perfect for when on holiday and when you want to go seamlessly from day to night. There is nothing worse than being in a tropical climate and having to put on thick suit style trousers when you go down for dinner. Hence the reason we recommend linen – super comfortable, breathable, light and breezy these Marks & Spencer shorts would look superb with a linen shirt, smart hat and deck shoes. All you need now is the yacht.
Swim shorts (for the gym pool)
We feel that there are two kinds of swim shorts – day shorts and holiday shorts. For day, we mean the shorts you wear to swim at the gym, that you would be happy for your colleagues to see you in and that do not make you stand out too much in front of the other gym goers. For those, we think that plain and tailored is the short of choice. Step forward Orlebar Brown, whose awesome shorts we have been championing for some time.
Swim shorts (for the beach)
When you are on holiday, especially in a summer warm country, some rules go out of the window. You should feel free to flaunt those muscled gym legs as much as you wish, so opt for bright and colorful short shorts that exude a summer party spirit. Ibiza ready brand Boardies are our go to brand for these.
