Working the green carpet: The best dressed men at the IIFA AwardsYet another awards ceremony? ‘tis the season, after all. The IIFA Awards – or to give them their full shiny title – The International Indian Film Academy Awards – are always a pretty impressive affair. While there are more awards ceremonies than movies these days (and for Bollywood, that’s a lot) this one rules the roost. Jetting off to international hotspots is par for the course – and it goes without saying that the red, sorry I mean green(!!) carpet gets a little more attention. Which makes the IIFA green carpet the perfect place for some Asian male fashion spotting…
Shahid KapoorShahid Kapoor cleaned up at the IIFA awards with his incredible Bollywood take on Shakespeare’s classic, Hamlet in the film, Haider. But his red carpet look was as relaxed and insouciant as they come. A slim fitting black suit gives polish, while his unbuttoned shirt and unkempt hair gave heaps of personality. Totally proving that paying attention to the details makes a big difference.
Hrithik RoshanFor sheer flamboyance, you can’t beat this guy. If you want to join him, then invest in a bold velvet tux – complete with matching bow tie. Perfection is absolutely essential to pulling off a look like this – no messy corners are allowed here.
Anil KapoorYou might just remember him from all those 80s hits your mum loved – but the veteran actor is enjoying a pretty spectacular revival of late, with his most recent film, Dil Dhadakne Do (worth seeing just for all the amazing Riviera style inspiration, btw). He rocked up to the awards in a classic black tux, showing that age is no barrier to looking good. Doing the star performance thing on stage with his nephew/awards show host, he switched to professionally polished slate grey suit. Loved the touch of the grey and blue pocket square.
Kay Kay MenonIt might have been the hair – but this look did give me a slight moment of thinking “what if Snape had been Asian?” – which is kind of fitting, as Menon scooped the award for Best Actor in a Negative Role. That said, this is a brilliant understated look, bucking the usual tux trend with a sleek minimalist black jacket, and just a hint of cream sleeves underneath.
Tiger ShroffTiger Shroff carries old-school Bollywood star appeal in his genes (the name’s the giveaway) so it’s no surprise that he exuded old school star power on the red carpet – with an all-black Giorgio Armani suit. Shows that you don’t need that clichéd “pop of colour” with everything.
Raj and PabloIt was great to see that Raj and Pablo kept the style flag waving high, despite working through the awards night! While it’s a tough job chatting up Bollywood’s biggest stars on the red carpet, the duo kept their cool in extremely dapper threads, leaving no detail spared. Cherry on the cake? Pablo's new slick hairstyle. You know you’re onto a winner when your grooming game is so on point.
