Eccleston Square Hotel London: Christmas Afternoon Tea Review
Afternoon Tea West End
The award winning Eccleston Square Hotel is located on the border of Belgravia and Victoria. Set amongst village-style high streets close to the bright lights of the West End and with many historic sights close by, I am genuinely impressed by the privacy of its location.
Within the luxury boutique hotel, the restaurant is small and intimate and provides an immediate feeling of warmth. I highly recommend the table by the window which overlooks Eccleston Square itself.
Vegetarian & Halal Food Places In London
The turkey served as part of the Christmas Afternoon Tea menu is not halal but there are vegetarian and seafood alternatives in place. Additionally, the restaurant offers a halal menu with several options for those dining for lunch and dinner taken from the main menu.
The restaurant offers a selection of fruit scones served with clotted cream and jam. The scones are served warm and crispy, a detail which many other establishments overlook. What also impresses is the addition of strawberries to this quintessential British favourite, something that I am not personally accustomed to but nevertheless an excellent accompaniment to the scones.
As one might expect, there were a variety of finger sandwiches: smoked salmon with cream cheese, cucumber with sour cream on white bread and the festive inclusion of roast turkey with Pommery mustard mayonnaise on basil bread. The cucumber and sour cream was to my surprise the most satisfying – simple yet deliciously effective. The portions are very generous sized as we found ourselves unable to finish the sandwiches between two of us.
On offer are festive pastries in the form of Christmas tree cupcakes, mini mince pies, a mini Christmas puddings and a Christmas pudding slice, all of which are rich, tasty and deliberately indulgent. The highlight however, is the less traditional buttercream frosting cupcake – truly superb; the frosting is most likely the chef’s speciality.
A choice of Canton teas are included within the price but I would allow for a glass of Prosecco (or two) to complete the overall experience.
The Festive Afternoon Tea is £21.50 per person and runs until Monday 12th January 2015. After this date one may opt for a standard Afternoon Tea served all year round and priced at £18.50 per person or £25.00 with a glass of Prosecco.
