It’s a fact known by all true modern gentlemen that you can’t just only look the part, you have to smell the part as well. No matter how well dressed you are if you don’t round it all off perfectly with the scent that exudes class then you’re not fulfilling your max appeal potential.
This new scent from Floris gives the feel of true British refined elegance. Sure to help give off an extra sense of charm and appeal to the wearer with first impression meetings in business or pleasure.
Floris is a London-based perfumery house that has been in operation since 1730 and is really a wonderful example of a family run British fashion institution, it continues to be run today by descendants of the founders. Originally founded by Juan Famenius Floris and his wife, Elizabeth, Floris sold grooming and shaving products as well as perfumes from their 89 Jermyn Street location. They received a Royal Warrant in 1820 as “Smooth Pointed Comb Maker” to King George IV. Royalty, historical figures and celebrities have long been customers of Floris, whose famed clientele includes Florence Nightengale, Winston Churchill, explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and actress Marilyn Monroe.
Floris perfumers have recently come together to collaborate with English shirtmakers Turnbull & Asser to launch 71/72 Eau de Parfum into the By Request Hand-Poured collection.
Named after Turnbull & Asser’s flagship location at 71/72 Jermyn Street, this fresh, woody and aromatic fragrance has been created to evoke the emotion of a first visit to a Turnbull & Asser store; it mirrors the quality materials used in the production of their shirts, through a fine blend of rich, aromatic notes of sandalwood, oud and orris.
The fragrance opens with a crisp aromatic lift of juniper paired with clean citrus notes of mandarin and bergamot. This transforms with heady florals of jasmine and lavender alongside earthier notes of orris and oud. The woods and spice of the base support throughout but start to take a refined lead as the fragrance develops and denotes the elegance of the rich wood furniture of both the Floris and Turnbull & Asser store interiors.
The partnership began in Spring 2015 when Turnbull & Asser owner, James Fayed and Head of Design, Dean Gomilsek-Cole joined Edward Bodenham and Floris perfumer Penny Ellis for initial development consultations. This relationship continued throughout 2015 with the teams spending time together both at 89 and 71/71 Jermyn Street developing a scent that defines their brands. With links that go beyond the foundation of sharing the same street, same clientele and same unique histories, the team wanted to represent a shared passion for craftsmanship and the values of the people behind the product.
The creation process has been made into a short film, produced by Origin Films, to give an insight into the traditions of the brands and to offer a rare glimpse behind the scenes. The film will be released upon launch. Only 200 bottles will be hand-poured at 89 Jermyn Street sold exclusively by Floris and Turnbull & Asser in standalone stores and online. Each bottle will be personally named, signed and numbered by perfumer Penny Ellis and will be available with a unique sleeve designed for the collection.
It’s a beautiful gift or a great collectors piece, with such a small number of units being poured it’s really quite an exclusive item.
