What we learned from the most stylish guys at London Fashion Week
When London Fashion Week rolls into town, the streets of the city are nothing short of impressive. And this Fashion Week, I have to say, the boys really shone. Razor sharp tailoring, effervescent bursts of colour and impeccable accessories on show all meant that I was left with some serious style envy.
Sit up and get ready to take some notes – here are my favourite street style picks from the week!
Tailoring Goes Ultra Minimalist
I love the power of a well-cut suit. It exudes power, personality and the kind of quiet confidence that speaks volumes without saying a single word. So how can you top a classic?
This streamlined and minimalist take on tailoring wins major points in my book. From the tonal, monochrome look in perfectly seasonal tones of cream, taupe and grey and a slim, ultra-flattering silhouette – to the immaculate attention to detail – the sleek, collar-less cut of the jacket and those sunglasses make this look utterly brilliant.
There’s a fine line between elegant flamboyance – and cartoonish excess. Like all the best things in life, a little can go a really long way – and this gentleman demonstrates it brilliantly.
The hydrangea boutonniere brings an artfully seasonal touch, while his vibrant scarlet bow tie and pocket square add a vibrant but restrained splash of colour on a grey day. If you’re thinking of emulating this, play to your own personality, and choose one or two pieces that will stand out, without being overwhelming.
One of my favourite micro-trends on the streets this Fashion Week was the use of really exquisite artistic tones, and painterly splashes of colour. An artfully rumpled silk shirt sans tie in pale sea green looks luminescent on London’s streets, bringing a touch of moody lagoons to the concrete jungle.
Or for a more urban look, this printed jacket combines the mottled shades of an artist’s paint palette with the energy of street art.
Tough Love in Leather
How do you like to wear your leather? Are you channelling the spirit of James Dean with some old school rock n’ roll vibes and a skinny silhouette or working a contemporary, more relaxed attitude?
However you roll with it, leather should definitely hold a special place in your wardrobe. A great biker jacket is an instant style lifter and adds a fantastically discordant touch when juxtaposed with tailoring or prints.
Accessorise like a boss
If there’s one lesson you take away from Fashion Week – it’s this – the details really do matter. From a Pepto-Bismol pink beanie or showing off a striking pair of socks, to high voltage neon details, don’t be afraid to reach for accessories that stand their own ground.
After all, the Devil is in the details – and he’s got the best dress sense out there.
