American football and Savile Row are not two worlds that we would normally place hand in hand, but somehow they collided this week, in a most peculiar way when Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson of the NFL team, the Jacksonvile Jaguars visited the esteemed headquarters of Huntsman Savile Row to have bespoke suits made.
The meeting coincided with the London visit for the match against the Indianapolis Colts at Wembley Stadium. Making time for sartorial suiting, the pair met with Mr Campbell Carey, the Creative Director at Huntsman who first met them when he traveled to Florida for the original fitting and measurements. Speaking of the constraints of undertaking a fitting in the dressing rooms of a football stadium in 100 degree heat and 80 degree humidity, worlds away from the sophisticated surroundings of Savile Row, Carey says “Us Glaswegians aren’t made for that weather” but nevertheless the experience was an “exciting and exhilarating” one.
Both of the players opted for two piece, peak lapel suits in a wool and mohair blend with the differences being in the hues (RAF blue and Beaujolis blue). The suit cloth is lightweight with an open weave, so perfect for the Florida heat (and indeed for your late summer vacation to a warmer clime) whilst the wool is great for rapid crease recovery.
